ANSYS Fluent License Maintenance- Notice of Intent

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, specifically the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Pittsburgh Mining Research Division, intends to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to ANSYS, Inc. for software maintenance, technical support, and updates. The procurement covers a variety of computational modeling products, including ANSYS CFD Premium, Discovery Pro, Mechanical Enterprise, and the Geometry Interface for Autodesk. These tools are critical for research involving mining safety and health, specifically the modeling of ventilation systems, airflow, methane gas, diesel emissions, and airborne dust. The anticipated period of performance is from September 30, 2026, through September 29, 2027. The government has justified this sole-source approach under FAR 6.103-1 because ANSYS, Inc. is the proprietary developer of the software and the only source capable of providing the necessary maintenance, patches, and technical expertise while ensuring compatibility with existing research data and models. While this is a notice of intent and not a formal request for quotations, the government is inviting capable sources to submit capability statements by September 25, 2026, to determine if the sole-source strategy remains appropriate.
