The Apple Campus 2 project, managed by the City of Cupertino, involves modifications to the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California. These updates, approved on September 3, 2025, under the Tenth Addendum to the Final Environmental Impact Report, focus on infrastructure enhancements without expanding the campus boundary or increasing the number of employees and parking spaces. The scope of work includes the installation of three new electric generators and six battery storage units within the utility yard, the construction of a 13-foot retaining wall for noise attenuation and grading, and the relocation of nine parking spaces from the Apple South Parking Structure to a new area northwest of the Central Utility Plant to maintain the existing parking supply. The project is expected to be completed over approximately 12 months, encompassing site preparation, grading, utility yard expansion, equipment installation, and commissioning. Key operational details include the removal of 3,000 cubic yards of cut material and the requirement that all construction staging occur within the campus to avoid street closures. All existing trees along the southern boundary will be protected. The City of Cupertino has certified that these modifications result in no significant environmental effects, and all original mitigation measures from the Final EIR remain in effect.

General Info

Apple Park adds generators, batteries, retaining wall; no boundary expansion, no parking increase, all work within existing disturbed areas.

Full Description

The Apple Campus 2 Project Final Environmental Impact Report (Final EIR) was certified by the City of Cupertino on October 15, 2013. The approved Apple Campus 2 (now called Apple Park) project included demolition of all existing structures within the project site and the construction of 3,420,000 square feet of office, research, and development uses; 245,000 square feet of auditorium, fitness center, and valet parking reception uses; 92,000 square feet of utility plants; and parking and ancillary buildings. The impacts associated with the modified project were analyzed in the Final EIR. Modifications to the Apple Park campus were proposed and included in the Site Plans and Project Application submitted to the City of Cupertino (City) by Apple Inc. (project sponsor) in July 2025 and were analyzed in the Tenth Addendum to the Final EIR. The minor changes requested in the Application involve: (1) the installation of three new electric generators and six new battery storage units, along with associated infrastructure improvements, within and adjacent to the existing utility yard footprint; (2) the removal of nine parking spaces within the Apple South Parking Structure to accommodate conduit routing, with construction of nine replacement stalls northwest of the Central Utility Plant to maintain the current parking supply; and (3) the construction of a 13-foot retaining wall around the proposed Battery Yard to accommodate site grading and provide noise attenuation. The modified project would not expand the campus boundary, result in ground disturbance outside of the previously evaluated area, or increase the number of employees or parking spaces on campus. All trees along the southern boundary of the project site would be protected in place. Construction would occur over approximately 12 months and include site preparation, grading, utility yard expansion, equipment installation, and commissioning. Approximately 3,000 cubic yards of cut material would be hauled off site, and all construction staging would occur within the Apple Park campus with no anticipated street closures.
