AI Contract Overview
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD, is preparing to award a firm-fixed price contract for the replacement, repair, rebalancing, and recertification of HEPA filters in Building 215's cleanroom facility. This project involves extensive construction work including demolition, containment, cleanroom specialties, and HVAC specialties, all to be completed in accordance with detailed design specifications prepared by Burdette Koehler Murphy Associates Inc. The cleanroom is a critical component of the Advanced Measurement Laboratory and features an 1800 square meter space with 750 square meters classified as Class 100. The scope includes replacing terminal air volume units, airflow monitors, exhaust air valves, HEPA filters, performing system diagnostics, rebalancing air handling units, and recertifying the cleanroom environment to maintain proper operation and pressurization with minimal disruption to laboratory operations. This procurement is a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 236220 with an estimated contract value between $1 million and $5 million. The construction contractor must meet stringent scheduling and operational requirements, including limiting outages by isolating work areas and working continuously during weekends to restore cleanroom functions within one week per outage. NIST will provide a phasing plan to facilitate coordination and minimize impact on cleanroom operations. The official solicitation, to be posted on sam.gov, will evaluate proposals based on bonding capacity, experience, technical approach, key personnel, past performance, and price, with award made to the offeror providing the best value to the government. Responses are due by mid-May 2026.
