The Swiss National Science Foundation is issuing a call for proposals for Ambizione grants, which are designed to support early-career researchers in establishing scientific independence through the leadership of an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution. Eligible applicants include researchers from Switzerland and abroad, as well as those in non-professorial academic positions. Funding is available for a maximum of four years and is offered in two forms: a full grant covering both salary and project funds, or a project grant providing only project funds. Recent regulatory changes require that all candidates maintain a link with Switzerland and stipulate that each supporting contact person may only assist one applicant. This represents the final call for Ambizione grants before a new postdoctoral funding scheme is introduced in 2028. Interested parties must submit their responses by November 3, 2026. An informational online event and Q&A session are scheduled for August 13, 2026, to provide further guidance on the application process.

Full Description

Ambizione grants are aimed at early-career researchers who wish to conduct, manage and lead an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution.
Ambizione grants help researchers from Switzerland and abroad enhance their scientific profile and become scientifically independent early in their career with a project of their own. Researchers holding non-professorial academic positions at higher education institutions are also eligible to apply. The SNSF awards two types of Ambizione grants for a maximum of four years. An Ambizione grant covers the grantee’s salary and project funds. An Ambizione project grant, on the other hand, comprises only project funds.
Changes to the Ambizione regulationsThe SNSF has decided that candidates must have a link with Switzerland. In addition, each contact person (e.g. a professor at the selected research institution) can only support one applicant. For further details, see the news published on 14 April 2026. This is the last call for Ambizione. A new postdoctoral funding scheme will be launched in 2028.
Information eventThe SNSF is organising an online event to present the Ambizione funding scheme on 13 August 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. (Swiss time). The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. Those interested can register now via the link below.

The Postdoc.Mobility fellowship, administered by the Swiss National Science Foundation, provides funding for researchers with a doctorate to conduct research stays abroad to enhance their scientific networks and professional profiles for future academic careers in Switzerland. The program typically funds a 24-month fellowship period, with an additional return phase of 3 to 12 months. Financial support includes grants for subsistence costs, travel expenses, and contributions for research and conference costs, as well as a return grant covering salary and social security contributions upon returning to Switzerland. The program covers various research areas, including Social Sciences and Humanities, Life Sciences, and Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Technology. Eligibility is primarily reserved for Swiss citizens, holders of a Swiss permanent settlement permit, or those married to or in a registered partnership with a Swiss citizen. Alternatively, applicants who hold a degree from a Swiss institution and have not previously held a postdoctoral position abroad are eligible. General requirements include having completed a doctorate within the last three years, though medical researchers without an MD-PhD may apply up to eight years after their state examination provided they have at least three years of clinical activity. Applications must be submitted via the mySNF online platform. As part of a broader reform of career funding, the final submission deadline for these fellowships is August 3, 2027, with a new postdoctoral funding scheme scheduled for launch in 2028.

Grant
National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and PreventionThe National Foundation for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NFCDC) is receiving funding to support administrative expenses that enable it to fulfill its mission of enhancing the CDC’s capacity to respond to domestic and global health threats through strategic partnerships. This grant does not fund research activities; any proposal involving research will be disqualified, as the program is strictly for non-research efforts aligned with CDC’s mission and strategic priorities. The foundation’s initiatives are designed to strengthen CDC’s operational effectiveness by supporting programs and projects that advance public health goals, with measurable outcomes tracked through the number of initiatives funded and the number of CDC Centers and Offices participating in those efforts. The funding is intended to build collaboration and accelerate impact across CDC’s network. The opportunity is posted under NAICS code 813211 and is managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, operating under the Department of Health and Human Services. It was announced on August 6, 2026, with no set-aside designation specified. The point of contact for inquiries is Page Flynn, reachable at ijf4@cdc.gov or 404-718-1415. The funding announcement is accessible through the Grants.gov portal, and potential applicants should consult the CDC’s official definitions of research to ensure compliance, as proposed research activities will not be considered for review or funding.

The Scientific Exchanges program, administered by the Swiss National Science Foundation, provides grants between CHF 2,500 and CHF 25,000 to facilitate international knowledge transfer. The scheme supports two primary formats: scientific events, such as conferences and workshops lasting one to five days, and research visits for Swiss researchers traveling abroad or international researchers visiting Switzerland for one to six months. Eligible applicants must be employed in Switzerland with a work-time percentage between 20 and 100 percent. Funding covers travel expenses, accommodation, meals, and specific childcare allowances, with regional travel budget maximums ranging from CHF 500 for Europe to CHF 2,000 for Oceania. Applications must be submitted via the mySNF platform at least four months prior to the event or visit. Evaluation is based on the quality, originality, and relevance of the exchange, the scientific expertise of the participants, the mutual benefit of the collaboration, and the overall feasibility. Required documentation includes specific templates for events or visits, CVs for applicants and invited participants, and a research plan of up to six pages for visits. Following the exchange, a scientific report of up to five pages and relevant output data must be submitted within six weeks. Grants must be managed by an official financial administration rather than the applicant personally, and any unused funds must be reimbursed upon completion of the financial report.

Grant
Open access article publications
Solicitation # ozKDc97zu0ZBwCfJ
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) provides grants to cover publication costs for high-quality, peer-reviewed scientific research directly linked to SNSF-funded projects. Funding is specifically designated for the gold open access route, ensuring research is immediately available free of charge and without restrictions. Eligible funding includes Article Processing Charges (APCs) for journal articles, Book Chapter Processing Charges (BCPCs), and Book Processing Charges (BPCs) for monographs and edited volumes. Starting January 1, 2027, the upper limit for APCs is 3,500 francs, and the SNSF will no longer cover costs exceeding this amount. Funding for BPCs varies by module, with a basic module up to 12,000 francs and supplementary modules ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 francs based on character count. To qualify, articles must be published in fully open access journals of a recognized scientific standard; publications in hybrid journals and special issues are not funded. Eligible researchers must be part of an SNSF-funded project, and the grant number must be cited in the article's acknowledgments. The SNSF utilizes ChronosHub as a service partner for processing APC invoices, which, as of January 1, 2025, are paid directly to publishers rather than as refunds to authors. For BPCs, strict quality control is required, including at least one external independent written review of the entire manuscript. Applications are accepted year-round via the designated SNSF or partner platforms, provided that metadata is submitted and the work is deposited in approved repositories.
