Caltrans Encroachment Permit for Cal-Ore Telephone’s Installation of Fiber Optic Along SR 97 in Siskiyou County from PM 34.365 to 36.154 and 52.379 to 53.831

Caltrans District 2 is issuing an encroachment permit, number 02-25-6-BB-0490, to Cal-Ore Telephone for the installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable within the Caltrans right of way along State Route 97 in Siskeyou County. The project is divided into two primary segments located near Macdoel and Dorris. The first segment, spanning post miles 34.365 to 36.154, involves installing 10,214 linear feet of new fiber optic cable and 9,814 linear feet of new conduit, which includes four handholes. The second segment, from post miles 52.379 to 53.831, requires 8,986 linear feet of new fiber optic cable, 5,193 linear feet of new conduit, and the utilization of 3,618 linear feet of existing conduit, along with the installation of eight handholes. Technical execution of the work will involve plowing soil for conduit installation, while boring and directional drilling will be utilized for hard surfaces and culverts. Excavation for bore pits and handhole locations will be performed using mini excavators or backhoes. This project is categorized as a Notice of Exemption and is considered categorically exempt under California Environmental Quality Act Section 15304 for Minor Alterations to Land, as the scope involves minor trenching and backfilling with surface restoration and is not expected to have a significant environmental impact.
