Case Mountain Fire Fuel Reduction Project

The Tulare County Resource Conservation District plans to conduct vegetation and fuels treatment activities across approximately 1,100 acres in the Case Mountain area over a ten-year period to reduce wildfire risk and enhance forest resilience. The project aims to protect large, legacy giant sequoia trees from high-intensity fires by thinning dense understory vegetation, removing dead and hazardous trees, and restoring a more natural forest structure that supports ecological balance and promotes the long-term survival of sequoia stands. These efforts are designed to reintroduce fire as a natural ecosystem process while minimizing risks to public safety, particularly along roadways where fallen trees could pose hazards. The initiative emphasizes the preservation of biodiversity and the reduction of wildland fire threats to nearby communities and infrastructure. All work will be carried out with a focus on ecological restoration and landscape-scale fire mitigation, ensuring that forest conditions progressively move toward a more resilient and sustainable state.
