AI Contract Overview
The Naval Air Systems Command plans to award a sole source delivery order under an existing basic ordering agreement with Sikorsky for work related to the CH-53K heavy lift helicopter program. The contract will cover non-recurring engineering efforts to improve troop seat cushions and to modify the tail pylon trailing edge fairing by separating it into two distinct fairings. Additionally, Sikorsky will provide support for flight testing associated with these modifications. This procurement is justified as a sole source due to Sikorsky being the original designer, developer, and sole manufacturer of the CH-53K aircraft, possessing exclusive technical data, specialized engineering knowledge, and unique expertise necessary to meet the Navy’s requirements. The contract falls under solicitation number N00019-26-RFPREQ-APM261-0213 with a response deadline of June 23, 2026. The work will be performed in Stratford, Connecticut, and is managed by the Naval Air Systems Command office located in Patuxent River, Maryland. Although the government intends to proceed with Sikorsky as the sole source, interested parties may express their interest and capability by submitting written responses by the deadline, which will inform the government’s decision whether to compete the procurement. Companies interested in subcontracting opportunities are directed to contact Sikorsky’s subcontracting manager. The acquisition is governed under authority allowing sole source procurement when only one responsible source can satisfy the agency requirements due to unique data rights and technical expertise.
