The Regional District of Kootenay-Boundary is seeking to advance the development of an active transportation network in Christina Lake through a Functional Design phase, aiming to realize a vision that improves connectivity, supports healthy lifestyles, and encourages clean transportation. Since the Regional District does not own the roadways, any future construction will depend on cooperation with the Motorized Transportation Authority, necessitating a focus on high-level design rather than detailed construction plans at this stage. The project will produce 30% detailed functional designs that clearly articulate the community’s goals and vision for the active transportation network, ensuring alignment with local needs and future implementation feasibility. Solicitation BC230027, posted on June 3, 2026, with a response deadline of June 30, 2026, is classified under NAICS code 237990 and is being managed by the Regional District of Kootenay-Boundary, despite being listed under the Government of Canada for organizational purposes. The primary point of contact for inquiries is Paul Keys, Contracting Authority, reachable via email at pkeys@rdkb.com. The intent is not to finalize construction drawings but to establish a clear, visually and functionally comprehensive blueprint that can guide future approvals and projects in coordination with the Motorized Transportation Authority, with the ultimate goal of creating a cohesive and accessible active transportation corridor in Christina Lake.

Full Description

The RDKB’s vision is to develop Chirstina Lake into a community with an active transportation network that enhances connectivity, promotes a healthy, active lifestyle, and facilitates clean transportation options. Because the Regional District does not own the roadways, approval for any construction works will require support of the MOTT. For this reason, we are not interested in developing fully detailed construction level plans, at this time. The idea and intent with Phase 2 is to develop Functional Designs (or 30% detailed designs) that clearly show the community’s vision for development of the Active Transportation Network in Christina Lake.
