City of San Diego Dam Maintenance Program

The City of San Diego Dam Maintenance Program involves critical infrastructure work at two locations in San Diego, California, under the supervision of the Department of Water Resources Division of Safety of Dams. At the Lower Otay (Savage) Dam (DSOD No. 8-4), the scope of work consists of minor alterations and the execution of exploratory borings on and adjacent to the dam and auxiliary spillway. At the Barrett Dam (DSOD No. 8), the project includes exploratory borings as well as concrete repairs to the vertical piers, spillway, and bridge deck. The program is managed by the City of San Diego, with key administrative oversight provided by Jeffrey Szymanski and the Department of Water Resources. Both projects have undergone environmental review pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), resulting in Negative Declarations that certify the work will not have a significant effect on the environment. Consequently, no mitigation measures, monitoring plans, or overriding considerations were required for the approval of these maintenance activities.
