City of Santa Cruz Routine Maintenance Project

The City of Santa Cruz has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-SCR-46003-R3 with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602. This agreement authorizes routine maintenance activities across numerous project sites within Santa Cruz County, including Moore Creek, San Lorenzo River, Pasatiempo Creek, and the Delaveaga Golf Course Irrigation Reservoir, among many others. The primary objectives of the project are to maintain adequate flood capacity and utility access, preserve existing stormwater and wastewater infrastructure, reduce fire fuel, remove non-native vegetation, and perform debris removal from illegal encampments. Authorized work is strictly limited to specific maintenance tasks such as the removal of obstructions, sediment, and invasive vegetation; the planting of native riparian plants; the repair of bank stabilization structures; and the maintenance of culverts and water infrastructure. The project was approved by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on June 27, 2024, following a determination that the activities would not have a significant environmental effect within the department's jurisdiction. The City of Santa Cruz serves as the lead agency for the project, with Filipina Warren acting as the primary contact, while Alexis Harrison serves as the contact for the Department of Fish and Wildlife Bay Delta Region.
