Conditional Use Permit N-DRC2025-00017 Verizon Wireless, LLC

Verizon Wireless, LLC has been granted Conditional Use Permit N-DRC2025-00017 by the San Luis Obispo County Department of Planning and Building to construct and operate a 98-foot-tall faux windmill wireless communications facility. Located on a 2.7-acre parcel within the Residential Suburban land use category of the Carrizo Plain Planning Area, the site is approximately 4 miles north of the Carrizo Plain National Monument. The facility will feature nine panel antennas, twelve remote radio units, one microwave antenna, one GPS antenna, and four overvoltage protection boxes. Supporting infrastructure includes associated trenching, equipment cabinets, hardware, and a backup diesel generator, with the tower and equipment areas enclosed by a 2,500 square foot six-foot-high chain-link fence with slats. The project involves an area of disturbance of approximately 15,000 square feet and 139 cubic yards of cut and fill. Environmental clearance was achieved through a Mitigated Negative Declaration under CEQA, with all identified mitigation measures serving as mandatory conditions for project approval. The San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission officially approved the project on May 14, 2026.
