Continuation of the Cardiovascular Repository for-Type 1 Diabetes (CARE-T1D) Consortium U01 (Open Competition)- Research

The National Institutes of Health, through the NIDDK and NHLBI, is soliciting applications for the continuation of the Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CARE-T1D) Consortium under solicitation RFA-DK-27-108. This cooperative agreement utilizes the U01 mechanism to support discovery and mechanistic research aimed at advancing the understanding of cardiovascular disease pathogenesis in type 1 diabetes. The program emphasizes hypothesis-driven research using multi-omics and molecular approaches, specifically encouraging collaborative investigations that integrate expertise in type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, inflammation, and cutting-edge omics techniques. The project period is limited to three years, with a budget cap of 500,000 dollars in direct costs per year, totaling up to 1.5 million dollars in direct costs over the award term. Awards are expected in fiscal years 2027 and 2028, with six to eight grants anticipated. Selected investigators must actively participate in the consortium through monthly virtual and annual in-person meetings and adhere to strict data-sharing and confidentiality policies. Applications are evaluated via the NIH peer review system based on the importance of the research, rigor and feasibility of the approach, and the expertise of the investigators and their institutional environment. Eligible applicants include small businesses and other for-profit organizations, provided they maintain active registrations in the System for Award Management and eRA Commons. All principal investigators must have a linked ORCID ID. The solicitation explicitly prohibits the use of foreign subawards or subcontracts. Recipients must also comply with federal regulations including 42 CFR Part 52 and 2 CFR Part 200, and implement specific cybersecurity incident reporting procedures that notify the awarding agency within 48 hours of discovery.
