AI Contract Overview
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), in partnership with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, is preparing to release a Notice of Funding Opportunity aimed at advancing research on cardiovascular disease associated with type 1 diabetes through the continuation of the CARE-T1D consortium. Established in 2024, this consortium comprises six research teams engaged in hypothesis-driven studies utilizing multi-omics and molecular techniques to better understand the pathogenesis of cardiac disease in individuals with type 1 diabetes. The funding opportunity will employ the U01 cooperative agreement mechanism, encouraging investigators with relevant expertise to apply. The initiative also promotes collaborative projects that integrate knowledge across type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, inflammation, and advanced omics technologies. Researchers with insights into these interconnected areas are invited to submit applications, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to cardiovascular disease in diabetes. The effort, overseen by the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, supports open competition for continued innovative research and can be further explored by contacting Chandima Nishadi De Abrew Rajapakse, PhD, MHS.

Full Description
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for discovery and mechanistic research to advance the understanding of cardiovascular disease in type 1 diabetes through a continuation of the CARE-T1D consortium. A consortium of six research teams was formed in 2024 through RFA-DK-23-021 to conduct hypothesis-driven research on the pathogenesis of cardiac disease in T1D using multi-omics and molecular approaches, leveraging the CARE-T1D resources. This NOFO will utilize the U mechanism activity code U01 mechanism for the investigative teams. Investigators with expertise and insights into this area of cardiovascular disease in T1D are encouraged to consider applying for this new NOFO. In addition, collaborative investigations combining expertise in T2D, atherosclerosis, Inflammation, and cutting-edge omics techniques will be encouraged, and these investigators should also consider applying for this NOFO.
