The Town of Battleford is requesting proposals from qualified and experienced law firms or lawyers to provide contracted legal services. The Municipality is seeking a legal service provider that has experience working with Saskatchewan municipalities and can provide timely, practical and cost-effective legal advice to Council, the CAO, and municipal administration. The successful proponent will be expected to provide legal services on an as-needed basis and may be requested to attend Council meetings, committee meetings, or other municipal meetings when required. The Municipality intends to establish a professional relationship with a legal service provider who understands municipal operations and can provide both routine and specialized legal services. The Municipality provides a range of municipal services and conducts activities including, but not limited to:Municipal administrationBylaw development/enforcementPlanning/developmentLand/property transactionsRoads/infrastructureWater/sewer servicesParks/recreational facilitiesAgreements/contractsProcurementEmployment/HRMunicipal taxation/assessmentCouncil/committee governanceOther municipal functions The successful proponent will be expected to:Provide timely and professional legal adviceRespond promptly to requests from the CAO or authorized municipal representativesIdentify potential legal risks and provide practical recommendationsMaintain confidentiality of all municipal information & professional liability insuranceComply with all applicable legislation and professional requirementsIdentify potential conflicts of interest immediatelyMaintain complete and accurate filesProvide clear and understandable legal adviceWork cooperatively with Council and municipal administrationProvide advance notice of anticipated significant legal costs
