Cybersecurity Compliance and CUI Safeguarding

This contract requires subcontractors handling Controlled Unclassified Information under the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement to implement and maintain comprehensive cybersecurity measures aligned with NIST Special Publication 800-171. The objective is to ensure the safeguarding of CUI at all levels of the supply chain by enforcing standardized protection controls covering access, auditing, media protection, incident response, and system integrity. Subcontractors must demonstrate full compliance with these requirements to continue performing work under the Defense Logistics Agency’s contract and are obligated to report any cyber incidents involving CUI within 72 hours to the Department of Defense, including detailed documentation of the nature, scope, and impact of any breach or unauthorized access. All subcontractors are expected to establish a robust internal cybersecurity posture, maintain continuous monitoring, and provide evidence of compliance upon request. The contract mandates adherence to the DFARS clause 252.204-7012, which applies to any entity receiving, storing, processing, or transmitting CUI on behalf of the Department of Defense. Failure to comply with the specified NIST controls or delays in reporting cyber incidents may result in contract termination, financial penalties, or exclusion from future DOD contracting opportunities. The work must be performed under the oversight of the Defense Logistics Agency and may involve coordination with other DoD elements to ensure uniform application of cybersecurity standards across the defense industrial base.
