Domestic Violence Prevention: Forensic Healthcare Services

The Indian Health Service is seeking to expand access to culturally appropriate and trauma-informed forensic healthcare services for American Indian and Alaska Native victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child maltreatment, and human trafficking. This initiative aims to build and enhance forensic healthcare capacity across IHS Areas by supporting community-based partnerships such as Multidisciplinary Teams and Sexual Assault Response Teams, which foster coordinated care and improve outcomes through integrated prevention, intervention, and victim support efforts. The focus is on ensuring timely, comprehensive, and culturally relevant medical and forensic services that prioritize victim well-being and strengthen the overall response system. Funding under this grant will enable organizations to develop or scale up programs that align with trauma-informed principles and incorporate cultural humility in service delivery. The emphasis is on collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches that improve coordination among healthcare providers, law enforcement, tribal advocates, and community stakeholders.
