The Military Burn Research Program (MBRP) Technology/Therapeutic Development Award (TTDA) for Fiscal Year 2026 focuses on advancing burn-related products and therapies with the goal of translating promising preclinical research into practical clinical solutions suitable for austere and resource-limited operational settings. This award targets product-oriented developments such as medical devices, drugs, or clinical practice guidelines related to burn care, allowing for both tangible products and knowledge products that support the development of tangible technologies or therapeutics. Knowledge products, while non-material, must have clear applicability to enhancing individual or public health through military burn research. A new feature for FY26 introduces a Mentorship Option, which provides higher funding to foster collaborative relationships between experienced researchers and junior investigators. This initiative not only supports important research aimed at addressing critical gaps in combat burn care but also promotes the growth of future leaders in military burn research. The award is managed by the Department of the Army and is part of the Department of Defense efforts to improve burn treatment in challenging environments, with contact and application details available through the eBRAP help desk and the grants.gov portal.

Summary: The fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Military Burn Research Program (MBRP) Technology/Therapeutic Development Award (TTDA) is a burn-focused, product-driven award mechanism intended to provide support for the translation of promising preclinical findings into burn products for clinical application in an austere, resource-limited, distributed operational environment.

Distinctive Features: The technology or therapeutic product(s) to be developed must be product-oriented (e.g., medical device, drug, or clinical practice guidelines involving a therapeutic or technology). The product(s) to be developed may be tangible or knowledge supporting the development of a tangible product and must address one or more of the FY26 MBRP TTDA focus areas. Knowledge products are allowable, provided that the knowledge is applicable to a technology or therapeutic under development. (A “knowledge product” is a non-tangible, non-materiel product that results from research with the potential to improve individual or public health.)

·        New for FY26: The FY26 MBRP TTDA offers a Mentorship Option at a higher funding level to support a synergistic relationship between an experienced researcher (Mentor) and one to two junior researchers (Mentees). The dual purpose of this award is to fund a primary research study addressing a critical gap in combat burn care while simultaneously fostering the development of the next generation of military burn research leaders.

Exosome Purification, Exosomal RNA Purification, and Small RNA-Sequencing ServicesThe National Institutes of Health, in collaboration with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, seeks specialized laboratory services to support the POTS clinical research study conducted at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. The contract requires a qualified provider to process 31 irreplaceable plasma specimens from human participants, performing integrated exosome isolation, exosomal RNA purification, and small RNA-sequencing using Illumina platforms. These tasks must be completed with strict adherence to sample integrity and chain of custody protocols, as the requiring laboratory lacks the validated capacity or bandwidth to perform these procedures in-house within the required timeframe. Each specimen, consisting of 0.5 mL of plasma, must be processed to yield intact exosomes split into multiple aliquots, with exosomal RNA extracted and_QUALITY controlled, and a portion used for downstream sequencing. The contractor is responsible for supplying all personnel, equipment, reagents, and materials necessary to complete the work. The provider must prepare libraries, sequence all 31 samples on the Illumina platform with a target of approximately 20 million raw reads per sample at 1x51 bp, and deliver sequencing data to the government via both physical hard drive and digital download. Basic bioinformatics processing, including read trimming, filtering, and mapping, is also required to ensure analysis-ready outputs. All specimens and resulting materials must be returned to the NIH in accordance with prescribed protocols, maintaining proper documentation and tracking throughout the entire workflow. The solicitation, numbered 75N98026Q00707, is open for response until July 7, 2026, under NAICS code 541714, with no set-aside requirements, and point of contact for inquiries is John Burton at NIH.
