The Macdonald-Cartier Bridge is a key interprovincial crossing linking Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec, connecting King Edward Avenue with Autoroute 5 and serving as one of only two truck routes between the cities. The Wearing Surface and Girder Coating Renewal project includes replacement of the asphalt wearing surface and buried expansion joints on the bridge deck. Work beneath the deck will involve cleaning and encapsulating the steel box-girders and floor beams’ coating, completing localized steel repairs, and replacing deteriorated catwalk sections. Additional work below the bridge includes rehabilitation of concrete piers and abutments, masonry repairs, and construction of a new retaining wall on the Ontario side to improve slope protection. All temporary construction and staging areas will be fully restored once the project is complete. An optional site visit will be held April 16, 2026. Please see tender documents for details.
