Geotechnical Field Investigation – Harbor Development Permit No. 25-058

The Port of Long Beach is executing the Waterfront Seismic Improvement Project at Pier F, Berth F202, within the Southeast Harbor Planning District. Under Harbor Development Permit No. 25-058 and its second amendment, the project focuses on reducing seismic risks and enhancing site stability through targeted geotechnical upgrades. The scope of work includes performing geotechnical borings, probes, and potholing to collect data and locate underground utilities. These efforts support the implementation of compaction and jet grouting in areas susceptible to liquefaction and settlement, specifically along the rock dike at the Middle Harbor entrance adjacent to the Joint Command Control Center, the Jacobsen Pilot Service building, and the associated parking area. The project involves the demolition of existing pavement and temporary structures, the relocation and adjustment of affected underground utilities from the JCCC parking lot to the Long Beach Fire Station 15 lot, and the in-kind replacement of pavement. All activities are conducted under California Environmental Quality Act categorical exemptions, as the work consists of minor alterations and basic information collection with no significant environmental impact. Project administration is managed by the Port of Long Beach, with key personnel including Camille Hodge as Project Manager and Allyson Teramoto as Director of Environmental Planning. All removed materials must be disposed of in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
