Gilroy Data Center

The City of Gilroy is permitting the development of a two-phase data center campus on a 56-acre undeveloped parcel at the southeast end of Arroyo Circle, with the first phase including a 218,000-square-foot data center building requiring a 49-megawatt electrical connection from Pacific Gas & Electric. This building will be backed by twenty-five 2.5-megawatt emergency generators to maintain server operations during outages and one 600-kilowatt generator to support essential building functions like lighting. The full campus will ultimately include a second data center building and a security building, bringing the total developed area to approximately 438,500 square feet. Supporting infrastructure will include a substation and switchyard, offsite upgrades to PG&E’s transmission and distribution system, and the potential installation of a Battery Energy Storage System or equivalent backup power solution capable of up to 50 megawatts in Phase I. The project is managed through the City of Gilroy’s planning offices, with primary contact Gloria Sciara, Senior Planner, and key coordination through Anusha Andukuri of Amazon, reflecting a partnership between the city and a major technology developer. All work complies with local architectural and site review permitting requirements for large-scale infrastructure projects in California.
