This contract involves research and development support for the manufacture and testing of a megawatt-scale superconducting motor and its related hardware, aiming to reduce technical risks. Building on a previous SBIR Phase 3 agreement focused on the detailed design of a 5 MW superconducting motor, the project represents a collaborative effort between the Firm and NASA. The Firm will be responsible for manufacturing and assembling the rotor following successful risk reduction testing of its critical components. Meanwhile, NASA will handle the manufacturing and assembly of the stator and will complete the final assembly by combining the rotor and stator. The contract falls under an 8(a) Sole Source procurement with a focus on hardware development in the area classified under NAICS Code 541715. The work aligns with NASA Glenn Research Center's interests, though specific geographic performance locations are not detailed. Key contacts for this effort include Justin J. Scheidler and Robert E. Watts, with the latter serving as the Small Business Specialist. The initiative aims to advance superconducting motor technology through closely coordinated industry and government collaboration.

This contract is for R&D support on the manufacture and test of a MW-scale superconducting motor and its associated hardware developed and tested for risk reduction. The contract will be consistent with and an extension of an existing SBIR Phase 3 with the Firm on the detailed design of a 5 MW superconducting motor. The motor demonstrator will be a collaborative effort between the Firm and NASA. The Firm will manufacture and assemble the rotor after risk reduction testing of its key components. NASA will manufacture and assemble the stator and then assemble the stator and rotor together.
