The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, plans to award a sole source contract for Freeman Brand Marine Hatches to be used on its floating plants. The contract is being awarded under the authority that only the Freeman brand hatches meet the agency's requirements as they are the sole direct replacements compatible with the existing floating plant configurations. Switching to a different manufacturer would necessitate costly modifications to the plants' hulls, framework, and warehousing of new spare parts, which would exceed the procurement cost of the specified Freeman hatches. This contract, solicited under the number W912HN-10-T-0061 and posted in June 2010, falls under NAICS code 423860 and involves the Department of Defense office in Savannah, Georgia, with performance at the Wilmington, North Carolina location. Although it's a sole source acquisition, other responsible suppliers are invited to submit capability statements or proposals by the June 23, 2010 deadline for consideration. The designated point of contact for the solicitation is Andrew Fiske, a Contract Specialist with the Wilmington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
