The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Alabama, is planning a $230 million, five-year contract for Integrated Modular Medical Support Systems (IMMSS), which encompasses modular, reconfigurable medical furniture and related services for government medical facilities across the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories, possessions, and some overseas locations. The IMMSS products must be compatible and interchangeable within their product lines, designed for healthcare environments with features such as easy cleaning methods and compliance with military standards. The systems will serve a wide range of medical facility applications, including exam and treatment rooms, nursing and reception stations, pharmacies, laboratories, dental clinics, offices, and veterinary and research facilities. About half of the work will involve integration with existing Herman Miller IMMSS products, with the remainder consisting largely of initial outfitting or work requiring integration with other manufacturers' systems. Associated services in the contract include design, delivery, installation, minor renovations, maintenance, reconfiguration, restorative and panel fabric replacement services, clinical analysis, project management, inventory and warehousing, and training. Contractors must demonstrate knowledge of patient-centered and evidence-based design principles, as well as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. An Industry Day conference was scheduled for October 30, 2008, in Huntsville to provide further information and allow potential contractors to engage with the government, review a draft Performance Work Statement, and clarify requirements. The solicitation encourages participation from both small and large businesses under NAICS code 337214 for office furniture manufacturing, and the government is conducting market research to identify additional capable vendors beyond the current sole source contractor, Herman Miller.

Integrated Modular Medical Support Systems (IMMSS) Industry Day Announcement Solicitation Number: W912DY-08-R-0038 This notice is issued solely for informational and planning purposes and does not constitute a solicitation. Both small and large businesses are encouraged to participate. The US Army Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Alabama (CEHNC) has a $230 million requirement over the next five years for the provision of modular medical systems furniture, identified as Integrated Modular Medical Support Systems (IMMSS), and associated services to Government medical facilities throughout the Continental United States, District of Columbia, Alaska, Hawaii, U.S. territories and possessions, and various overseas locations. IMMSS is comprised of modular furniture product lines with components that are reconfigurable and interchangeable within each product line. IMMSS was initially developed and provided to the Government by Herman Miller for Healthcare under an expired negotiated Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract with MEDCOM Contracting in 1996 and further provided to the Government under a follow-on sole source ID/IQ contract in 2005. Herman Miller is currently the sole IMMSS contractor. Other manufacturers also provide systems to MEDCOM facilities outside the IMMSS program. The Government is currently performing market research to determine if there are other vendors who are capable of performing the IMMSS requirements. The basic requirement is to provide integrated modular furniture systems for the healthcare environment that are easily interchangeable and reconfigurable with a high percentage of reuse. Systems shall include both healthcare environment specific applications and features as well as office applications features. Healthcare and office systems components within a product line shall be physically and architecturally compatible and interchangeable. Systems and components for healthcare environments should be able to be cleaned using a cart washer, wand-washed or steam cleaned. Systems shall generally be in compliance with MIL-STD-1691, which can be found at http://www.wbdg.org/ccb/browse_org.php?o=24. Required systems include applications for examination rooms, treatment rooms, nurse and reception stations, pharmacies, laboratories, dental clinics, offices, administrative and logistics functions, waiting areas, veterinary clinics, research, classroom/training, and other related functions in medical facilities. Physical integration and/or compatibility with existing Herman Miller IMMSS systems, or systems made by other manufacturers, can be required. It is anticipated that approximately 50% of the work will require architectural and/or physical integration with existing Herman Miller IMMSS systems. The remaining 50% of the work will not require integration with existing Herman Miller IMMSS systems. A small portion of the remaining work may require integration with systems made by other manufacturers, but most is expected to be initial outfitting of facilities or areas that will not require integration with existing systems. Associated services will include design, delivery/transportation, installation, minor facility renovation or repair work performed during installation, maintenance, reconfiguration services, restorative services, panel fabric replacement services, clinical analysis services, extended project management services, inventory services, warehousing services, product orientation training, etc. The contractor will be required to have knowledge and experience with patient centered design principles, evidenced based design, and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The NAICS code for this requirement is 337214, Office Furniture (except Wood) Manufacturing. The Government will be hosting the Integrated Modular Medical Support Systems (IMMSS) Industry Day Conference on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Research Park, 5903 University Drive, Huntsville, Alabama 35806. The conference will begin at 08:00 for registration with the actual presentations starting at 09:00. The conference will end at approximately 16:00. Pre-registration will be available Monday, October 20, 2008 through Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the following web site: http://www.hnd.usace.army.mil/engr/IMMSS/Default.aspx. PWS will be available no later than Monday, October 20, 2008 at the following web site: http://www.hnd.usace.army.mil/engr/IMMSS/Default.aspx. You will also find a Capabilities Statement at the aforementioned website.
