The 12th Contracting Squadron at Randolph Air Force Base intends to award a sole source purchase order to Hologic for a preventative maintenance program for the Hologic Digital X-Ray System, Model Epex Gold. The contract involves Hologic providing all necessary personnel, equipment, and facilities to maintain the system, including parts, tools, labor, and transportation for the pick-up, teardown, inspection, quoting, and repair of the unit. The total estimated cost for this service agreement is $39,000 to maintain an X-ray system valued at over $120,000. This sole source award is justified by the fact that Hologic is the original manufacturer of the Epex system, possessing exclusive rights to the proprietary digital radiography software integral to the unit, valued at approximately $40,000. Hologic also has the specialized trained technicians and necessary tools to service the system properly. Market research and solicitation of competitive offers were not conducted due to these unique proprietary factors. The contracting office commits to monitoring the marketplace to avoid sole source acquisitions in the future whenever possible. The notice closes on June 27, with points of contact including SSgt Ricardo H. Monroy and Contracting Officer Gloria U. Marshall.
