The Department of Veterans Affairs, through its VA Regional Office in Huntington, West Virginia, plans to issue a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to Smiths Detection Inc. for a Maintenance Service Agreement covering an X-Ray Machine produced by this manufacturer. The contract will span five years, including a base period and four option years. This procurement is restricted to Smiths Detection Inc. because they are the exclusive provider of the proprietary diagnostic tools, software, and trained personnel necessary to properly maintain the equipment. Consequently, this acquisition is not open for competitive bidding. The contract aligns with statutory guidelines permitting limited competition due to a single available source and is being conducted under the relevant federal acquisition regulations. No solicitation will be published, and the notice serves solely to inform interested parties of the intent to award the contract to Smiths Detection Inc. The contracting officer overseeing the action is Robert R. Mulheran, and the procurement directly supports the functionality of the X-Ray Machine at the Huntington facility, ensuring continued operational readiness for veterans’ healthcare services.
