Landsat 5 year Definitive Contract The U.S. Geological Survey requires unbiased; highly reliable; and technically advanced flight and ground systems engineering to continue successfully operating and developing its land remote sensing missions. Given the acquisition-sensitive nature of these activities and the need for access to mission-critical government systems; this work must be performed by a Federally Funded Research and Development Center. An FFRDC provides the government with independent; conflict-free technical expertise that cannot be sourced from commercial Definitive Contractors; ensuring all engineering analysis and decision-making are conducted solely in the national interest and with the highest standards of accountability; security; and fiscal stewardship. The Definitive Contract being requested is a five year - base plus four option years Definitive Contract.
The USGS ensures Landsat data continuity as required under the National Space Policy; which the Trump Administration promulgated in December 2020.
