The New Americans Can Code program, created by the New York State Office for New Americans, is being extended for one additional year to continue supporting immigrant communities facing high unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This extension ensures uninterrupted access to essential digital literacy and coding training, which are vital for immigrants to meet their basic digital needs, participate in remote work, access telehealth services, and pursue online education. The extension, covering the period from September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2026, is a sole-source award granted to Albany Can Code Inc., the current service provider, to prevent any service gaps while a new, more comprehensive Request for Applications (RFA) is developed for launch in late 2025 or early 2026. This initiative aims to address digital equity and workforce development for immigrants across all New York State counties, with a focus on providing accessible training programs that enhance economic viability. The contract, valued between $500,000 and $2,000,000, is managed by the NYS Department of State, with primary contact Coleen Kern. The extension is critical to maintaining ongoing support for the community and ensuring a seamless transition to future program enhancements.

ONA is extending the New Americans Can Code for one additional year, to meet the ongoing needs of immigrants, and also to allow time for the development of a request for applications (RFA) to be released in late 2025 / early 2026. This one-year extension will ensure there is no gap in services between the current program and a new enhanced RFA program to be launched next year.   The New York State Office for New Americans created the New Americans Can Code program to address the pervasive unemployment amongst the immigrant community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the need for additional workforce development programs that would lift up those who are most impacted by the changing economic landscape and needs of employers.  This program uniquely addresses the digital equity needs of immigrants by providing access to free basic computer training, as well as more advanced software coding training, for immigrants who are urgently in need of this type of training in order to support their economic viability, as well as their day to day including telehealth appointments, remote work requirements, online schooling, and other basic digital needs. The current grant with Albany Can Code Inc will be renewed for one additional year, 9/1/25 – 8/31/26 to ensure no gap in services.  Reason for advertising exemption: Single Source Award recipient: Albany Can Code Inc. Any questions or comments regarding this notice of sole-source, single-source, or procurement otherwise exempt from advertising in the NYS Contract Reporter should be directed to the contact person listed for the contracting agency or public authority. Ad end date:08/29/2025 Contract term: Extension through 8/31/26 County(ies): All NYS counties
