New Pico Gardens – Maintenance and Safety Repairs Project

The City of Los Angeles, through the California agency office, is initiating the New Pico Gardens – Maintenance and Safety Repairs Project using funding from CA16P004-501-26 to comprehensively modernize public housing units. The project encompasses a wide range of improvements aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and livability, including full ADA compliance upgrades, asbestos abatement, tile replacements, exterior cladding and painting, repairs and resurfacing of walkways, parking lots, sidewalks, and interior streets, along with routine interior modernizations. Electrical systems will be upgraded, fire damage repairs completed, lead-based paint stabilized and mold removed, and playgrounds, exercise equipment, and fencing upgraded for resident use. Additionally, aged gas, water, and sewer lines will be replaced with new infrastructure, and all buildings will receive new 20-year roofs. Safety and security will be enhanced through the installation of security cameras, exterior lighting, and additional fencing. The project is forecasted to be posted on July 7, 2026, and is managed by the City of Los Angeles with Shelly Lo, Environmental Supervisor, serving as the primary point of contact. All work will be performed in Los Angeles, California, targeting the Pico Gardens public housing community to ensure long-term structural integrity, environmental safety, and improved quality of life for residents. The scope reflects a holistic approach to urban renewal, addressing both immediate health and safety concerns and long-term infrastructure needs to maintain habitable and compliant housing conditions for decades ahead.
