The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Boulder Campus is seeking a qualified small business to undertake a construction project involving the removal and replacement of two existing wooden stair assemblies in the lower-level mechanical room of Building 2. The project requires demolition and legal disposal of one 5-riser and one 9-riser wooden staircase, followed by the fabrication and installation of new galvanized steel stair assemblies with slip-resistant treads and code-compliant handrails and guardrails. Due to space constraints within the mechanical room, the stair assemblies must be fabricated and installed onsite, including necessary welding. The new stair systems must be securely anchored to the existing structure, and the work must coordinate with existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems while protecting surrounding surfaces and ensuring cleanup and debris removal. Compliance with applicable building codes, OSHA regulations, and NIST safety and security standards is mandatory. Key dates for the solicitation include the submission of a list of individuals for a site visit by April 27, 2026, followed by the site visit at Building 2 on April 29, 2026. Questions regarding the solicitation are due by May 8, 2026, with proposal submissions closing on May 15, 2026. The procurement is a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 236220 and is managed by the Department of Commerce, NIST. The main points of contact are Lauren Lopez and Travis Zoellner. The solicitation is publicly accessible through SAM.gov for interested bidders.
