Notice of Planning Documents Available for Review for Badlands National Park

Within the next few years, the National Park Service (NPS) intends to issue a prospectus requesting offers for a concession contract to provide visitors to Badlands National Park with lodging, food and beverage, retail, and other services at Cedar Pass (CC-BADL001). Prior to releasing the new prospectus, NPS is undertaking a planning effort, including a Development Concept Plan (DCP), for the Cedar Pass area. The purpose of the project is to improve visitor and employee uses and facilities at the Cedar Pass area by creating a plan for redevelopment of the area that would be consistent with the character-defining aspects of the associated historic district and cultural landscape and protect the resources in the area. The project is needed because current visitor and employee facilities at the Cedar Pass area do not meet the need of visitors, the concession visitor service operations, or the park. The Cedar Pass Development Concept Plan documents are available online at the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment website. The NPS invites the public to review and comment on the proposed redevelopment of the Cedar Pass area. The 215-acre project area includes the Ben Reifel Visitor Center; park administrative building; park employee housing; the Cedar Pass Lodge and associate outbuildings and cabins; the operational support area; a maintenance area; and the park amphitheater and campground. The development concept plan fulfills a park planning priority for resource preservation, facility asset management, and visitor use management at Badlands National Park and serves as a component of the park's planning portfolio.
