AI Contract Overview
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) plans to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity focused on encouraging the development and integration of innovative study designs and analytic methods using machine learning, artificial intelligence, and adaptive approaches. The primary goal is to identify individualized health and function profiles that could enable personalized prevention strategies and interventions aimed at improving cognitive and brain health in older adults. This initiative encompasses a broad spectrum of research, ranging from basic studies in animal models to human-focused investigations that cover multiple levels of analysis, from cellular mechanisms to societal factors. Although applications are not currently being accepted, this announcement serves to give potential applicants ample time to form collaborations and prepare proposals responsive to this upcoming funding opportunity, which will be announced under the R01 activity code. Researchers with expertise in aging, cognitive health, and advanced analytic techniques are encouraged to consider this opportunity. The program emphasizes precision aging research and aims to foster projects that advance the understanding and prevention of cognitive decline in older populations through cutting-edge scientific methods. For further information, interested parties can contact Dr. Molly Wagster at the National Institute on Aging.

Full Description
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications that develop or incorporate novel, cutting-edge study designs/methods/analytic approaches through the use of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and adaptive designs to allow the discovery of health/function profiles at the level of the individual and that could lead to the implementation of personalized prevention plans/interventions for cognitive/brain health in older adults. The initiative would allow for both basic research in animal models, as well as the development of profiles for humans, which would span levels of analysis from cellular to societal.
Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize the R01 activity code. Investigators with expertise and insights into this area of aging research are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this new NOFO.
