The Mississauga Library is looking to implement a solution that will allow customers to register for library cards online and to be able to renew their library cards, if they qualify for renewals. The Library is looking for a solution that will also verify that the customer meets the eligibility requirements for a library card, both at the registration and renewal stages, including residency requirements. The City has engaged the Supplier to undertake this Project to implement a solution to allow customers to both register for and renew their library cards online. Currently, library card registration and renewal require customers to come into the library and show their ID to staff to prove that they meet the card eligibility requirements. Customers are required to renew their library card every two years. The library has an online application form for virtual cards; this system, however, only verifies residency via checking that the customer has entered “Mississauga” as the city and “ON” as the province. A list of new card applicants is then sent to library staff who must manually verify that the address exists and is not a commercial building. There is no verification that the person actually resides at the address provided.
