The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-SON-64330-R3, pursuant to section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to Valerie Pierce.
The project is limited to stabilizing an 82-foot-long streambank of Calabazas Creek to protect a residence. The bank will be stabilized with the use of a rootwad revetment that will include a rock toe, redwood logs with rootwads attached, and fabric reinforced earth fill (FREF) to rebuild the streambank. Once the bank is stabilized it will be planted with native riparian plants, including alder (Alnus sp.) trees. A redwood log vane will be installed directly upstream of the stabilized bank to direct flows toward the center of the channel. The log vane will be anchored to two boulders and tied into the toe of the bank. As part of the project, excess soil excavated from the rootwad revetment will be used to create a berm along the northern end of the residence outside of the riparian area, in what is a residential landscaped yard, to provide additional flood protection. Staging and access will occur via the existing residential driveway and developed side yard adjacent to the creek. No riparian trees will be removed as part of this project, but minor tree trimming may be required. The project will result in approximately 100 square feet of permanent impacts to riparian habitat and approximately 720 square feet of temporary impacts to riparian habitat. Depending on the amount of surface water present at the time of construction, dewatering and aquatic species rescue may be required.
