This would result in lost days at sea and unrecoverable data losses that are critical to managing valuable U.S. fisheries resources risking overfishing and fisheries stock collapse. In addition, the RV Gladys Reese is currently equipped with Beier Propulsion and Steering Systems designed and installed by Beier Intergrated Systems (BIS). BIS is the only company currently qualified and available to service this proprietary equipment. No other contractors are qualified to service the equipment and similar products cannot be modified to be compatible with the current Propulsion and Steering Systems. Such documentation will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis.
