This contract requires the complete repainting of a 270-foot vertical steel elevator shaft and full replacement of deteriorated lift cables within Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, under strict environmental, safety, and technical standards. Work must be conducted in a confined, damp, and ecologically sensitive underground space, necessitating environmental containment systems, negative-pressure ventilation with HEPA filtration and Low Explosive Limit monitoring, and the use of only explosion-proof, low-VOC materials. Surface preparation and coating application must comply with SSPC-SP standards, ASTM D4417 and D4541 for profile and dry film thickness measurements, and result in a minimum 14-mil DFT for Noxyde primer and topcoats. Lift cable installation must adhere to ANSI A17.1 and NEII specifications, including tensile and elongation testing. All activities require compliance with OSHA confined space provisions, NFPA fire safety codes, NPS Director’s Order #13A for cave protection, and daily logging of environmental and operational conditions.
