AI Contract Overview
The Department of Veterans Affairs, through Network Contracting Office 8 under the Regional Procurement Office East, intends to award a sole-source firm fixed-price contract to the University of Miami for specialized and urgent referral pathology laboratory testing services at the Miami VA Medical Center. This action is authorized under FAR 6.302-1 due to the University’s unique proximity to the medical center, which ensures rapid transport and preservation of sample integrity, preventing morphological changes and loss of stability critical for accurate diagnostic results. The contract will span one year and utilize simplified acquisition procedures, with no competitive solicitation planned unless a responsible firm provides a capability statement demonstrating equal or superior capacity to meet the requirement. Responses must be submitted via email to Contracting Officer John Quijada Jr. no later than May 15, 2026, at 4:00 PM EST and must include the company name, SAM UEI number, physical address, point of contact details, and business size classification under NAICS code 621511, which carries a $41.5 million size standard. While no formal clause provisions, evaluation factors, or detailed performance specifications are outlined in the notice, the government retains full discretion to determine non-competition based on submitted capabilities. The place of performance is the Miami VA Medical Center, and though packaging, marking, inspection criteria, invoicing procedures, and payment details are not specified, compliance with applicable healthcare licensing and certification standards is implied. No attachments, options, security clearances, or subcontracting requirements are referenced, and the procurement hinges entirely on the contractor’s ability to deliver timely, high-integrity pathology services tied to geographic advantage.
