Sabatier Catalyst Development

The NASA Shared Services Center, under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is soliciting proposals for the development of a Sabatier catalyst under solicitation number 80NSSC26934579Q, with a response deadline of June 25, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Central Time. This procurement is a Total Small Business Set-Aside under FAR 19.5 and is assigned NAICS code 541715, restricting eligibility to small businesses registered in SAM.gov with a valid UEI and CAGE code. The objective is to synthesize a baseline batch of 500 cubic centimeters of Sabatier catalyst using NASA-supplied Ruthenium (III) Chloride, delivering 400 cc to NASA and retaining 100 cc for internal testing. Additional deliverables include a Catalyst Data Package containing synthesis data, chemical formulation, quality assurance results validating purity and metal concentration, and synthesis procedures, as well as a Test Data Package documenting poisoning tests conducted over a minimum of 300 hours with six contaminants applied to the baseline and two additional catalysts. The contractor must also perform a literature search for at least three alternative catalyst formulations and procure one to two commercial methanation catalyst samples for comparative analysis. The contract is Firm-Fixed Price with an estimated value listed as TBD and will be awarded on a Lowest Price Technically Acceptable basis, where failure to meet all technical requirements results in elimination from consideration. Delivery is FOB Destination to Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, with strict packaging requirements mandating that all shipments be marked “UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT” and include NASA’s title, two copies of shipping documentation, gross weight, estimated value, carrier identification, and the prime contract number.
