The Department of Veterans Affairs, VA Medical Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is seeking to negotiate a sole source firm fixed-price contract under FAR Part 12 with Advanced Medical Optics for specific supplies necessary for the Sovereign AE System used in cataract surgery. The contract will provide five headpieces (Part No. SOV680290) and three cautery cables (Part No. K106075), which are uniquely available from this single vendor. A formal justification for other than full and open competition is being prepared to support this acquisition. This solicitation is issued as a Request for Quotation but explicitly states it is not a request for competitive quotations, and any decision not to compete rests solely with the government. Responses to this notice will only influence whether the government decides to initiate a competitive process. The procurement aligns with NAICS code 339112, and all inquiries must be submitted in writing by the specified deadline of December 23, 2002. Communication is directed to the designated VA contact via email or facsimile, and the relevant contractual terms adhere to provisions current through Federal Acquisition Circular 2001-09. The contracting office managing this acquisition is based in Tampa, Florida.
