The AN/ALE-55 Subsystem consists of an offoffboard Fiber Optic Towed Decoy (FOTD) and on-board Electronic Frequency Converter (EFC). The FOTD is high-powered electronic off-board countermeasure and self-protection jammer that provides aircraft with Radio Frequency (RF) self-protection from missile threats. The EFC converts RF signals sent from the aircraft's electronic warfare system to FOTD.
The AN/ALE-55 Dual-Band Decoy (DBD) is the U.S. Navy’s next-generation, fiber-optic towed radio frequency (RF) countermeasure. It is the direct successor to the legacy AN/ALE-55, the DBD is engineered to protect tactical aircraft—primarily the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet—against highly sophisticated, modern enemy radar systems and guided missiles.
AN/ALE-47 is the standard, combat-proven passive self-protection system utilized across a vast array of Department of War (DoW) fixed-wing, rotary-wing, and transport aircraft. It is designed to defend aircraft against both infrared (heat-seeking) and radar-guided missiles.
