The Jacksonville District Corps of Engineers is announcing an Industry Day site visit scheduled for June 20, 2008, to discuss an upcoming project on State Road 90 (U.S. 41), Tamiami Trail, in Miami-Dade County, Florida. This site visit will start at 9:00 am near the beginning of the project, approximately 2 miles west of Krome Avenue, and will include a presentation by Corps personnel outlining the project scope and technical requirements. The project involves constructing a bridge and raising the road to accommodate higher water stages in the adjacent L-29 canal, allowing increased flow into Everglades National Park. The work spans from mile post 13.692 to 24.650 and includes reinforcing about 9.7 miles of road with various surface treatments, as well as extending culvert sets and modifying existing road structures. This is an environmentally sensitive project due to its proximity to the pristine Everglades National Park wetlands. The bridge will feature two 12-foot travel lanes and 10-foot shoulders, with transitions requiring embankment fill. Limited construction right of way and staging areas at S-333 and S-334 require coordination with the Contracting Officer. Industry Day attendees must register by email with firm and participant details. There is no solicitation at this time, but 60% plans and specifications are to be posted by June 16, 2008, allowing interested parties to review prior to the site visit. Comments from industry will help shape the Environmental Assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act. The official Request for Proposal is anticipated to be issued by July 22, 2008.
