The Project involves replacement of the existing bridge over Lagunitas Creek with a seismically stable crossing that consists of a three-span concrete bridge. The new bridge will be longer and wider than the existing structure to accommodate safety improvements and construction methods. In addition, widening the roadway and lengthening the top of the triple-box culvert to the north of the bridge will improve safety for pedestrians and other non-motorized users. A temporary construction trestle will be needed for non-impact pile driving activities and temporary screens/noise barriers will be used to minimize impacts on adjacent residences and businesses. Permeation grouting will be injected into liquefiable soils within the creek bank to prevent liquefaction during a seismic event that could cause the abutment to be structurally compromised. Permeation grouting will inject approximately 360 cubic yards of cementitious grout into a 1,392-square-foot area of soil to stabilize the material and be approximately 3 to 20 feet deep. Existing roadside ditches and other drainage features affected by the bridge work and roadway widening will be adjusted or removed and replaced in kind. A gutter system will collect the water from the scuppers and convey it off the structure and into upland areas where it will percolate into soil.
