State Route 41 Capital Maintenance Project

The State Route 41 Capital Maintenance Project in Madera County, California, encompasses resurfacing approximately 12 miles of roadway from PM 22.1 to PM 34.1 near Coarsegold, with the intent to extend pavement life and enhance safety and pedestrian access. The work includes cold planing 0.25 feet of existing asphalt and installing a layered pavement system consisting of 0.15 feet of Hot Mix Asphalt Type A topped with 0.10 feet of Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt Type G, following crack sealing and localized repairs. Pedestrian improvements are a central component, involving the construction of new sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and curb and gutter systems along the corridor, alongside upgraded crosswalk visibility through the installation of streetlights and flashing beacons. Drainage infrastructure will be modified to accommodate the new sidewalks, including replacing inlets behind the sidewalks at PM 28.02 and PM 28.17 with manholes and installing new inlet systems in front of the sidewalks connected to existing culverts under State Route 41. Additional drainage enhancements are required at the Gold Creek Center at PM 28.22, including two new inlets and culverts on both sides of the driveway. The northbound shoulder may need reconstruction adjacent to new sidewalk areas. Guardrail replacements are specified at multiple locations, including PM 23.214–23.388 and PM 27.892–28.935, and traffic signal detection and lighting systems will be modernized.
