TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER LICENSING OPPORTUNITY: Freeze-Resistant Hydration System (MSC-TOPS-21)
Contract Overview
Solicitation details, issuing organization, response deadlines, documents, and interested companies for this government contract opportunity.
AI Contract Overview
NASA's Johnson Space Center is seeking interested companies to license a freeze-resistant hydration system designed to prevent water from freezing in tubing, containers, and mouthpieces in extreme environments. Developed by an astronaut-mountaineer and tested on Mt. Everest, the technology is capable of operating in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius with 15-mile-per-hour winds for over 12 hours. NASA is offering these rights on either an exclusive or nonexclusive basis for specific fields of use, though it provides no funding in conjunction with these licenses and does not manufacture products for commercial sale. Interested parties must submit a license application through the Automated Technology Licensing Application System by February 27, 2027. This opportunity is managed by the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center under solicitation number T2P-JSC-00068. Inquiries and applications should be directed to the NASA Technology Transfer Program, as this notice serves as market research to determine public interest and does not guarantee a follow-on procurement.

Full Description
NASA’s Technology Transfer Program solicits inquiries from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture and market the following technology. License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses.
THE TECHNOLOGY:
NASA's Johnson Space Center is offering an innovative freeze-resistant hydration system for licensing. The technology substantially improves on existing hydration systems because it prevents water from freezing in the tubing, container, and mouthpiece, even in the harshest conditions on Earth. This technology is designed to work to minus 40 degrees Celsius and 15-mile-per-hour winds over a 12-hour summit day, and likely well beyond. Field testing was performed at Mt. Everest in May 2009. The device was originally conceived and designed by an astronaut-mountaineer who recognized the great risk of dehydration in high mountains and the lack of sufficient technology to meet this important need. This NASA Technology is available for your company to license and develop into a commercial product. NASA does not manufacture products for commercial sale.
To express interest in this licensing opportunity, please submit a license application through NASA’s Automated Technology Licensing Application System (ATLAS) by visiting https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/MSC-TOPS-21
