The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, acting on behalf of the University of Georgia, is soliciting Statements of Qualifications from design professional firms to provide services for the comprehensive renovation of Building #1050 on the Athens campus. This project, identified as Project No. J-470 OUA-26-100, involves the full transformation of a historic 1939 concrete and masonry structure, originally built with New Deal funds, into modern instructional space spanning approximately 24,000 square feet. The building, currently occupied by Environmental Health Sciences, will be reconfigured to accommodate around 330 student seats following the department’s relocation to Cedar Street Building B. The redesign must fully comply with UGA’s Quality Enhancement Plan criteria for Active Learning classrooms, requiring a minimum of 25 square feet per student, mobile furnishings, and integrated collaboration tools. The renovation will include full replacement of aging MEP systems, upgrade of restrooms and elevator equipment, enhanced accessibility, installation of fire suppression systems, modern AV technology, and targeted envelope repairs such as trim restoration, selective repointing, and window refurbishment. Approximately 900 square feet occupied by a food service vendor on the first floor will remain untouched. The procurement follows a qualifications-based selection process rather than a competitive bidding model based on price. Respondents must submit their statements of qualifications by the deadline of July 16, 2026, at 2:00 PM EDT through the State Purchasing Division Sourcing Website. The University of Georgia will screen submissions to identify several qualified firms and may invite those deemed especially qualified to participate in interviews, during which additional details regarding project team composition will be requested. Finalists will be ranked based on their demonstrated expertise, experience, and capacity to deliver the scope of work, after which contract discussions will commence with the selected firm.
