NADS Use and Support Services

The NADS Use and Support Services contract, solicitation number DTNH2216R00025, was awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration within the Department of Transportation to the University of Iowa. The primary objective of this agreement is to grant the government access to the National Advanced Driving Simulator system, including its hardware platforms, software routines, simulations, and data analysis capabilities. This partnership allows for a wide range of technical and administrative support to facilitate NHTSA sponsored research, specifically focusing on critical areas such as human factors and vehicle dynamics. Due to the University of Iowa's ownership of the specialized facility and proprietary software, the contract was established as a sole-source award under FAR 6.302-1. Market research and a Sources Sought Notice confirmed that no other providers possessed the necessary capabilities to fulfill these requirements. The agreement ensures that NHTSA has the essential infrastructure and expert support needed to conduct advanced driving simulations and related safety research.
