2026 Placerville Wildfire Resilience Strategy

The 2026 Placerville Wildfire Resilience Strategy is a forecast project managed by the El Dorado County Resource Conservation District to implement fuels reduction activities across approximately 683 acres of public and private lands. Located in western El Dorado County within and south of the City of Placerville, the project aims to mitigate wildfire risk and protect critical infrastructure, facilities, and natural and cultural resources. The scope of work includes a combination of hand and mechanical thinning of brush, small trees, and fallen dead trees, as well as the pruning and limbing of larger trees to reduce density while maintaining canopy coverage. All resulting biomass will be managed through mastication or chipping. Treatment methods will be specifically tailored based on slope, vegetation characteristics, the presence of sensitive resources, and proximity to residences and infrastructure. The project strictly prohibits commercial harvesting, pile burning, herbicide application, and prescribed fire. This initiative is filed as a categorical exemption under the Notice of Exemption provided to the County of El Dorado and the Office of Planning and Research.
