The Department of Veterans Affairs VISN 15 Contracting Office is seeking a commercial CO2 Surgical Laser specifically designed for ENT surgeries. The required equipment must be capable of ablating, incising, and treating tissue with high precision and include magnification for small areas. A critical requirement is the inclusion of three operational modes: continuous, wave, and ultrapulse, with the ultrapulse mode being essential to prevent thermal spread and charring when treating sensitive areas such as the larynx and vocal cords. Additional desired specifications include high pulse energy, average power, automatic pre-set starting parameters based on specialty, and a programmable interface for saving individual physician settings. This procurement is managed by the VA Heartland Network 15 in Leavenworth, Kansas, under solicitation number VA-255-09-RQ-0298 and NAICS code 423450. Interested contractors can coordinate with the point of contact, Mr. Donald Denno, for further details regarding the Request For Quote.

Full Description

The Department Of Veterans Affairs, VISN 15 Contracting Office intends to release a commercial solicitation for a CO2 Surgical Laser. The laser must be able to ablate, incise and treat desired tissue structure and be compatible with ENT surgeries. The laser must provide precise energy to the desired treatment area. Magnification is required to treat very small areas. It is requested that the laser have 3 modes: continuous, wave, and ultrapulse. The ultrapulse is very important because it allows physicians to achieve desired tissue effect without thermal spread of energy and char. This is critical when working with sensitive tissue like the larynx and vocal cords. Continuous wave technology can not deliver very high energy for a sustained period. As a result, thermal spread and charring are prevalent. Furthermore, the lower power makes it difficult to ablate tissue. Additional desired features include: 1. Automatic pre-set starting parameters, by specialty and application 2. Programmable interface allowing staff to save individual MD's preferred settings. 3. High pulse energy and average power. All contract details will be included in the Request For Quote, which will be released on or about April 1, 2009. Any contractor who wishes to receive a copy of the RFQ may submit a request in writing. A fax or e-mail response will be accepted. Fax number is +1 (555) 000-0000. The Contracting Office address is: VA Heartland Network 15, Network Business Office, Contracting Section (10N15-90), 4101 S. 4th Street Trafficway, Leavenworth, KS. 66048-5055. E-mail address is contact@example.gov. Point of contact is Mr. Donald Denno, +1 (555) 000-0000.
