The Edward P. Boland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leeds, Massachusetts, intends to award a firm-fixed-price sole-source contract for the purchase of a Pearson Medical Technologies iPack® Rx Unit Dose Packager and related equipment and services. This action is authorized under the Federal Acquisition Regulation and specific statutes identifying a sole responsible source, citing that only this brand-name product meets the agency’s requirements to replace aging pharmacy packaging equipment. The contract scope includes the acquisition of the main unit, accessories such as monitors, keyboards, label printers, supplies, installation, training, and a 12-month warranty period, with customer support covering normal business hours. The vendor must demonstrate relevant experience servicing this equipment and provide ongoing software updates and technical support remotely; however, annual on-site maintenance, replacement parts, and certain other services are excluded from the contract. The solicitation invites interested parties to express interest only if they can provide clear evidence that competition would benefit the government, but this notice itself does not seek competitive proposals. Installation will include on-site setup and training of pharmacy and biomedical staff, with service documentation required upon maintenance visits. Any services or parts beyond the contract must be authorized prior to work commencement, with the VA responsible for purchasing non-contract-covered parts. The contracting specialist overseeing this procurement is Manases Cabrera, with a response deadline of August 22, 2022. This action supports upgrading the pharmacy’s packaging capabilities with a reliable, technologically advanced solution tailored to the VA’s specific operational needs.
