AI Contract Overview

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) plans to award a sole source contract to TBJ, Inc., located in Chambersburg, PA, for a customized autopsy table equipped with integrated HEPA filters. This contract is justified on the basis that TBJ is the only manufacturer offering autopsy tables with built-in HEPA filtration, which is essential for protecting workers and the environment, particularly because the BSL-4 laboratory where the table will be used lacks an exhaust system. The procurement falls under statutory authority 41 U.S.C., 253(c)(1) and FAR 6.302-1, allowing for a non-competitive award as only one responsible source is capable of fulfilling the agency’s requirements. The notice clarifies that this is not a request for competitive proposals but invites interested parties to express their interest and capability, with the Government retaining discretion on competition. The contract is not designated as a small business set-aside. Contractual inquiries are directed to Gary Morgan and Jeff Miller, both Contract Specialists at CDC. The solicitation, referenced as 2007-Q-09220 with NAICS code 532490, was posted on November 27, 2006, and outlines the unique need for this specialized autopsy table tailored to meet stringent laboratory safety standards.
