The Mission Installation Contracting Command at Fort Gordon, Georgia, plans to issue a sole source contract to AFIX Technologies Inc., based in Pittsburg, Kansas, for a total value of $74,925. This contract includes a base year of $24,975 and two option years. AFIX Technologies is the exclusive manufacturer, distributor, and service provider of the AFIX Tracker Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), a specialized technology used throughout the Department of Defense to conduct fingerprint identification searches for criminal investigations. Given the proprietary nature of this system and the absence of alternate service providers capable of maintaining or operating it, the sole source procurement is justified. The contract period starts on November 1, 2011, and extends through October 31, 2011, aligning with the needs of the US Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory, the current user of the system. The AFIX Tracker AFIS is critical for latent fingerprint identification in crime scenes and evidence processing, making this contract essential to sustaining forensic investigation capabilities within the Department of Defense. The purchase ensures continued operational support and maintenance exclusively through AFIX Technologies, reinforcing the unique dependency on this proprietary technology for military investigative purposes.
