The Air Force Research Laboratory’s Air Vehicles Technology Directorate is seeking to engage Lockheed Martin for the research and development of an automatic collision avoidance technology (ACAT) program aimed at enhancing F/A-series aircraft safety. This initiative involves refining system requirements, establishing top-level functional criteria for ACAT, and integrating these capabilities into various fighter aircraft, including the F-22A, F-35, F-16, and F/A-18. Additionally, where automated systems are not feasible, the program will incorporate manual collision avoidance mechanisms. The effort is positioned as a risk reduction program to ensure the effective blend of ACAT within existing and future platforms. This notice serves as an informational announcement rather than a formal request for proposals, inviting capable contractors to submit capability statements within 15 days for potential consideration in a future competitive procurement. The government retains sole discretion over whether to pursue competition following the review of responses. All communications regarding the acquisition process are directed to the designated contracting officer and technical program manager based at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The contract is managed under the solicitation number NOCA-06-02-PKV by the Department of Defense, emphasizing the strategic importance of advancing collision avoidance technologies within the Air Force's aerial combat assets.
